Today My Son Goes To College ! ! !

Ralph via SAT phone (transcribed)
As we sit or approach 20 miles off the coast of the Shetland Islands, not too far off the coast of Scotland. We have already traveled 6,700 miles in honor of Wounded Heroes on the I am Second Wounded Heroes Voyage, Crossing The Atlantic, presented by Interstate Batteries and the others.
I think about what heroes goes through when they miss time from their families and they miss many opportunities as well as they often give up their life or health.
Today my oldest son goes to college. It was my goal to be back in time to take him. Since the day he was born I held him in my lap and talked about this day. Today I’ll miss it.
I feel the pain of many of those heroes. Each and every hero that gives out something for other people, I salute you!
Thank You,
God bless.

  1. Robert,

When you visit London you might want to also visit Liverpool, the origin of your family heritage. That is, Alexander Brown, a Belfast Ireland linen merchant, moved to Liverpool where he had four sons: William, George, James, and John. They originated the Brown Brothers banking interests initially as Alexander Brown Bank. They did quite well as insurance providers insuring ships and cargo between Liverpool and the New World (America). They, of course, established the first bank in the Americas when part of the family moved to America (Dad thinks the American side was Alexander, James, and John; whereas, the Liverpool/London operations were handled by William and George).

Your grandfather was George James Brown. His father came to visit your grandfather and family in the mid 1930’s during depression years. Dad remembers visiting the ship and being carried around by apparently officers being shown the bridge and “steering wheel.” That’s about all he remembers.

O.K., about the 1930’s or earlier the Alexander Brown bank/Brown Brothers made the largest international loan in history to Germany. In those days such a loan involved the physical transfer of gold. Subsequently, Hitler was placed in power about 1933 and eventually repudiated that loan (i.e. didn’t repay). However, that gold and silver was collected from the various bank vaults during WW II and hidden in Italy and North Africa where it still remains hidden. Dad and I did a lot of checking in 1984 but in Italy anything below a meter “belongs to the State”. So, we just looked, looked, and looked.

Remember, in 1984-1985 Dad and I visited the Middle East in search of the Holy Ark of the Covenant; but, again we couldn’t touch. However, we found the exact hiding place and realized that there are two waiting to be brought forth (Ezekiel 12:3-7 and 12:8-12; etc.).
